Crack Sealing

Sealing and filling asphalt or concrete pavement cracks is a common road maintenance activity. Specialized materials are placed into or above cracks to prevent the intrusion of water and incompressible material into the cracks and to reinforce the adjacent pavement. This seals the cracks in the road surface and reduces the amount of moisture entering the subsurface layers and thus extends the pavement life. Crack sealing is a very cost effective method of pavement preservation.

North Florida Emulsions utilizes a hot poured rubberized sealant for crack sealing. The material comes packaged in 30lb. to 40lb. blocks and is melted in a double walled kettle and applied @450 degrees.

Site Selection

Pavement candidates may be asphalt or concrete pavements in good structural condition with low surface distress. It’s well suited for:

  • High traffic roads because its quick setting rubber allow both quick traffic return and night construction.

  • Residential streets because of its pavement preservation and cost effectiveness.

The process involves cleaning the existing cracks with forced air and then applying the rubberized sealant and striking off the excess material to leave the material even or recessed with the roadway.
